Healthy Life Changing Instantly
Last September, my life changed over a three day period with no warning as to the severity of my illness. I developed flu like symptoms, so I was checked for Covid. It was negative, so the following day I went to Emergency, by ambulance. Within 30 minutes of being admitted I was diagnosed with Leukemia and needed to be transferred to Vancouver General to their ICU, as I was considered an emergency.
I was hospitalized for 11 weeks while undergoing aggressive chemo therapy with a host of other treatments. The medical teams there, literally saved my life. I was mostly in a coma my first 4 week, while the treatments continued. I went into remission after about 5 weeks.
I had to relearn how to do everything physically; sit, stand, walk with a walker and assistance, use the washroom. It was all difficult and a long slow process. I am still recovering almost one year later, but have come a long way. I was given a 2nd chance in my life Thanks to the Medical Professional. I was treated with great respect and care.
As I continue with recovery I continue to be provided with medical care and support both physically and mentally.
I was fortunate to have great family support throughout my ordeal. I can't imagine my struggle without this support. I hope my experience offers some useful information for your study.
