Lossing our Mom
Our moms was 88yr old and was hospitalized for 4 days due to vomiting and not eating. She was tested for an UTI and the doctor reported to us that the results came back contaminated, but she assumed it was because our mom had had diarrhea that morning. How does a doctor just assume, it was a quick way to get rid of her and send her home. She came home and a few days later we had to request another urine test, which came back positive. Then in December she was hospitalized again for vomiting and not eating. Again, no test were conducted she was just put on an IV for a few days and sent home. Two weeks later she was back at the hospital. This was right in the midst of covid so visits were limited to two people one visit a day per person. For the first few days they just tried to get her to eat and she had mild dementia so if you did not tell her to eat or open the packages of food, she would not do it herself. Finally one doctor decided to run some tests to see if there was a underlying reason for not eating ie cancer. These tests came back negative at which point the dr said it as end of life, and he said she would never come back from this and we should declare her Palliative as this would allow us vists anytime. Never was this explained to us in detail, it was done quickly over the phone, and this being a very emotional time, this was not right. We were told she would be kept comfortable. We were called on a Friday afternoon by staff saying our mom had experienced an episode. We later found out after days of lying in bed a nurse sat her in the chair, strapped her in and left her there. We to this day have no idea how long but the poor soul ended up being in that chair. The poor sound ended up having a bowel movement and was found with salvia dripping out of her mouth. The doctor said stroke then quickly retracted that statement when she saw that our mom could move all her limbs, but she could barely speak. The next two days were horrendous, she was drugged up and basically left to die. She was certainly not comfortable. The lack of empathy caring, and full disclosure was disgusting and disgraceful. Then to top it all off, they had the nerve to say she passed away from Covid, which was a bold face lie.
